  • Writers’ Workshop: Your revised Readers’ Response final draft is due at the start of class if you decide to resubmit it. If you do, you must also submit the original rubric.
  • Weebly Launch: Today you will start designing your Weebly website, and this site is where you will post all of your work in my two classes.
    • Weebly Student Log In: Use this link to access your Weebly site. Please change your password, and keep track of your username and password!
    • Weebly Example This is an example of a Weebly website that I am working on. As you can see, I am none-too-talented with this Weebly thing, but at least this gives you an idea of what the basics of your site should include. This will change as the year moves forward.
    • Your Weebly Home Page is due by the end of class on Thursday, 10/4.

    • If you are not done with your Readers’ Response Second Draft (RRSD), finish it (was due on 9/17)
    • Today you will score your RRSD and copy it onto a new doc sent to you in Classroom. I will then comment on your final draft, score it and return it to you. On Thursday, you will have the chance to address the comments I made to improve your work if you so desire.
    • Your Readers’ Response Final Draft (RRFD) is due by the end of class today!

    • Launch our study of MN. Today you will spend some time with a partner looking at chapter 1 in the textbook Northern Lights. Your Do Now! activity will ask you to answer some questions in your social studies notebook, and then we will spend some time chatting about the study of MN.
    • You will next work on the Interpreting Sources assignment. This was sent to you in Google Classroom (Social Studies folder). You will have the opportunity to work on this alone or with a partner, and this is due by the end of class on Thursday, 9/20.

  • Current Events: Launch year-long Current Events   assignment.  Today you received a template in Google Classroom to use for this assignment; make sure that you use it!  Also, please note the Current Events tab at the side of this blog.  The Current Events page includes examples as well as online sources of information.  For your first set of current events, I want you to use the Newsela site (also linked on the Current Events page)! You have two sets of current events due each quarter, and the due dates for quarter 1 are:

Wednesday, 9/12 A Day (Language Arts)

  • Writers’ Workshop: Today you will get into a small group and give/receive feedback on your Readers Response first draft.
    • I will ask for a volunteer to share her/his Readers’ Response, and I will model how the Critique will be used in class to help each other improve the quality of assigned work. This is something we will use and modify throughout the year in both language arts and social studies.
    • You will give and receive feedback on the RR rough draft assignment
    • Your RR second draft is due by the end of class on Monday, 9/17!

  • CNN Student News: This is a daily 10 minute commercial free newscast designed for middle and high school students produced by the journalists at CNN. We will watch this and discuss some of the stories presented when done.

  • Homework: Complete your Evidence Bag Activity and bring your artifacts/pieces of evidence with you to class in your brown bag on Friday, 9/7.
